On the 14th of June we travelled to Te Awamutu to perform on Val and ray Thurgoods 100th charity concert. These awesome people deserve a medal for the years of dedication and hard work they have given to raising money for numerous charities and of course to NZ country music. This year the concert was in support of prostate cancer and with around 600 people turning out on the night Val and Ray and their wonderful team of helpers raised $7000-00. Well done everyone. The show was headlined by Dennis August with support from an aray of artists which included Kitten, Joy Adams, Carleen Still, Nancy Muller, Jocelyn Kilpatrick, Murray McPherson, Lew Jones, Rien Vanderschantz, westie, Steve Burns and of course Annette and Kim. We must also thank the backing band for their excellent work on the night John – Lead guitar, Margaret – rhythm, Alan – Drums, Kevin – Bass, Harold – Pedal Steel and making a special appearance Internationally renouned Pedal steel player Joe Martin. Also a big thank you to Warwick on sound and video. The Bible Chapel is such a great venue and even though this was Val and Ray’s last concert we hope that we will be able to perform there again in the future. I am sure that I speak for all the artists that have been involved with Val and ray over the years in saying that we have appreciated their support and the professionalism in which they run their shows and the way in which they look after the artists. Thank you. I know that they get a lot of support from the local businesses which is also appreciated .

October/November 2014
There were a couple of celebrations to begin October. The first was the 69th birthday of the Whangarei RSA Women’s section. Once again we had an enjoyable afternoon with the ladies (and D”Arcy) from RSA’s around the North who had come to celebrate with Whangarei. We look forward to their 70th next year. Speaking of 70th’s, coming into existence one year before the RSA’s Women’s Section was our very good friend, Des Fatt. We got together with Des and Sharon plus family and friends to celebrate Des’ 70th birthday at the Dargaville RSA on the 10th. A great night was had by all that attended. The following Friday we were back in Dargavile to entertain the locals at the RSA.
The first Friday in November we were performing at the Whangarei RSA where we received the news that following a survey of club members on the acts that perform at the RSA we topped the list as the most popular act. So thank you to everyone that voted for us. We look forward to entertaining you all in 2015.
On the 15th of November we headed to Te Awamutu with “The Mountain Mist Band” to do our own show. A very enthusiastic and appreciative audience enjoyed a night of our style of country music. Some travelled down from Auckland, across from Tauranga and all the way up from New Plymouth, which we appreciated very much. It was an awesome night. We performed songs from our latest cd “Try A Little Kindness” in the first half of the show and in the 2nd half of the show we got to perform songs that we usually only get to do when we are performing with the band which is something we hope to do more of in the future. So look out for one of our shows coming to a venue near you.
Thank you to Val and Ray Thurgood for their support and help in organizing the show. Also to Barry Rabarts for answering our S.O.S. and getting to the show to video the 2nd half for us. Thank you to Ian, Andrew, Tiny and Richard for an excellent show, to Robin on sound and to you our fans for supporting us and making it such an awesome night. The highlight being the medley which everyone sang along to with gusto. Brilliant!!!
We have a few gigs to finish off the year so keep an eye out for those and we look forward to 2015 and the Marton and Barham festivals in January and February respectively. We will also be doing a show in Wanganui on Wednesday the 14th of January at the War Memorial Hall. This is on our way to Martin so if you are in the area come along for a night of country music. Keep an eye out for advertising for this show it’s going to be a great night and an appetiser for the Marton festival.
There are still a couple of places left on our Norfolk Island tour so be quick if you want to join us for a week of country music on an awesome little island in the South Pacific.
That’s about it for now. We will keep in touch but until then take care and keep it country.
Best wishes
Annette and Kim
